In his recent address on the war in Iran, President Trump mused that the war could be over in a few weeks — even without a peace deal — while also threatening to bomb Iran “back to the stone ages.”

Whatever else he says, the prospect of $4 gas isn’t likely to go away soon.

As Sonali Kolhatkar writes this week, the war’s massive disruption of the global economy is yet another reason for reducing dependence on fossil fuels and transitioning to renewables. Especially, as Basav Sen adds, as the administration also makes the stunningly irresponsible move to pull the rug out of federal regulations on greenhouse gases.

Also this week, Robin S.C. Griffin reflects on the increasingly dangerous tenor of anti-trans politics in the United States. And Jim Hightower scoffs at billionaires’ horror at the prospect of a simple one-time wealth tax.
