As I write, the Republican budget bill — Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” — is on the verge of passing Congress.

The bill will slash trillions over the next decade in SNAP and Medicaid spending to fund tax breaks for the wealthy, a $1 trillion Pentagon budget, and massive increases for ICE. It will add trillions to the deficit and make Americans sicker and hungrier while fueling inequality and further militarizing our society.

This week in OtherWords, Ta‘Kyla Bates shares how the bill will devastate health care access for rural Americans like her family in Alabama. And Chuck Collins explains how it makes taxpayers pay for corporate private jets.

Also this week, Chloe Rogers argues that the Trump administration is making it easier for financial predators to scam military families. And Sonali Kolhatkar makes a compelling case to regulate AI.

Here’s wishing you a happy Fourth of July weekend.
