This week, House Republicans are sprinting to pass a giant budget bill chock full of the Trump administration’s priorities. Among other things, the bill would deeply slash social programs like Medicaid and food assistance to fund enormous tax cuts for corporations and the wealthy.
In OtherWords, Michael Chameides lays out what all that and more will mean for rural communities in particular. “This bill would make it harder for rural people to meet their basic needs — all so the wealthy and corporations can avoid paying their fair share of taxes like the rest of us do,” he argues.
Also this week, LeeAnn Hall makes the case for more federal investments (and against cuts) for public transit. Paul Gordon argues the Senate shouldn’t confirm any Trump judges while the president continues to openly violate the law. And Sonali Kolhatkar explains how an oppressive Persian Gulf monarchy may be inspiring Trump’s governing model.
