A final vote on President Biden’s jobs and infrastructure agenda has been delayed as Democrats in Congress negotiate with their own right flank over the size and scope of the legislation.

At particular risk, Sonali Kolhatkar writes this week, is the expanded Child Tax Credit, which has proven effective at rapidly reducing child poverty in this country. Democrats shouldn’t let a handful of millionaire conservatives in their own ranks derail this wildly successful intervention, she argues.

Also this week, Josue De Luna Navarro takes a look at the bigger picture of how the U.S. treats migrants after disturbing photos from Texas appeared to show Border Patrol agents whipping Haitian refugees. Jim Hightower makes a plug for the public Postal Service. And cartoonist says Senator Joe Manchin, not President Biden, is acting like the president.

We’ve been light these past few weeks and thanks for bearing with us for that. In the coming weeks I’m hoping we’ll have more time to fill up our contributor pipeline again.
